It is not “what” is Judaism, but rather “why” is Judaism. The 20th century presided over the death of nearly every grand narrative, yet like every other time period that sought in one way or another to annihilate Judaism, Judaism remains. Understanding this requires not only understanding the narrative of Judaism, but as well how it has been able to constantly remake itself for millennia as a tiny minority religion. “Jewish Narratives and Origins," the first volume of a planned three-part series "Gateways Into Judaism," is not an introduction to Judaism. Rather, it is a case arguing that we can fully embrace religious narratives while retaining our intellect and rationality. Moreover, it is an exploration of infinite strangeness, an unflinching look at the difference between history and narrative, and a love letter to a religion that should not still exist, yet does.

Our YouTube Channel Intro Video:

What is Beit Virtuali?

  • Jewish Education

But we do it a bit differently. Either Jewish tradition is relevant or why bother? You should never have to check your brain at the door, but you should be drawn more deeply in to Judaisms unending wisdom and challenges. And all this learning should lead us to healing our lives and our relationships.

  • Judaism as a Dialogic Community

Judaism contains within it the ideal of machloket l’shem shamayim, or argument for the sake of heaven. Beit Virtuali celebrates two truths: that there is always more than one side to a question and that through debate we lift eath other up rather than tearing each other down.

  • Jewish Ritual

Either prayer and ritual has value or it doesn’t. We believe that if you engage in ritual it should be with an entire heart, mind, and strenght, but to do so requires not only passionate ritual but as well the opportunity to understand what is happening and why.
